What it means to be a mother.
It means you have held love in your heart for a child. This child may have been a teeny tiny embryo who you see on a microscopic slide, and have gone through intense pain and inconvenience in order to transfer into your womb. This child may have only lived for a very brief time, but you loved him or her so fiercely and did whatver you could to keep them safe. This child may not be yours geneticly, but you have babysat countless hours, or fostered, or just made a difference in their life. It means you love so much it hurts. It means you cry, often in secret becasue you try to be strong for the littles in your care. It means you are tired. A down to the bone, doggone, worn-out kind of tired. It means you do hard things. It means intense happiness you cannot explain. It means you would do anything possible to put a smile on your child's face, and to protect your child from harm. It means you make hard choices in order to give your child what is best for them...even if it doesn't always make you or them feel good at the time. It means you are inconvenienced, billions of times each week. It means spit up, poop, tantrums and laundry consume your days. It means intense and overwhelming feelings of joy when you see your child accomplish milestones. It means you have been blessed, given a gift...from God.
